Deleting Your Account
Ethos is built so that nothing has to last. You can dissolve your account — and everything tied to it — whenever you choose. This page explains how, and exactly what happens when you do.
delete from within the app
The simplest way to delete your account is directly in the Ethos app:
- Open Ethos and go to your account settings.
- Choose Dissolve account.
- Confirm when prompted. Your account and your content are permanently removed.
“Dissolving” is permanent. Once confirmed, your account cannot be recovered, and the content tied to it is removed from our systems.
delete by request
If you can’t access the app, or would rather not use it, you can request account deletion by email. Write to us at [ enable javascript to view email ] from the address associated with your account, or include enough detail for us to identify it, and ask us to delete your account.
We will verify the request and complete the deletion. We may ask you to confirm a detail or two first, to make sure we’re deleting the right account and that the request is genuinely yours.
what gets deleted
Removed. When you delete your account, we remove your account record and the personal information associated with it, along with the content you’ve shared, from our active systems.
Already temporary. Most content in Ethos is ephemeral by design — it fades and is automatically removed during normal use, whether or not you delete your account.
Limited exceptions. We may retain a small amount of information where we are required or permitted to — for example, to comply with law, prevent abuse, or maintain the security of the Service. Anything retained for these reasons is kept only as long as necessary.
how long it takes
Deletion from within the app is immediate. Deletion requested by email is completed after we verify the request, typically within a reasonable period of receiving it.
